Brazil has entered into a partnership with the European aerospace group EADS in order to combat spillover from the Colombian conflict into the Amazon. The recent increase in cooperation between the Brazilian military and non-U.S. companies is part of a larger plan to bolster Brazil's police and military capabilities. At the same time, Brasilia wants to keep the United States out of Brazil's highly coveted Amazon region.
